"Radiant" and "Abyssal" powers

in visavia's
Angler
Most powers are kinda mid, except for those that are dangerous to the users. Radiant powers come with little to no self-protection from the power, and Abyssal ones have heavy mental effects on the user. It sets the world up to have cape fights be just a bit more unhinged, and pushes the world to care more about each cape's powers. But most importantly, it carves this fic away from the usual wall of "all nobody-capes act in a one-dimensional evil or cop role and have zero trauma" that's far too present. Everyone is teetering on the edge, mentally or paracausally, and their perspectives may seem alien to you.

Legend with Glaistig Uaine's powers

in Eva Grimm's
Luster
Because it makes more sense for Legend to be a 'Harvester of Legends.' And one of his harvested powers is Legend's canonical power.

Every single character is an unpowered version of their canon self, but with elements of their powers/habits shining through

in Distraktion's
Patience
Each character feels like what you might get if they'd never had powers, but lived a similar life. For instance, Colin becomes a detective because he's a comics nerd wants to solve crime. Same tunnel vision and hyperfocus on the job, wanting to be liked/respected and get results, but using laws rather than tinker powers.

Armsmaster nearly dying to Lung pre-canon

in Distraktion's
Shadow Aspects
His tunnel vision is one of his defining traits, and here it nearly killed him far earlier than in canon, causing a huge shift in his priorities.

Armsmaster and Chevalier being ex-boyfriends, and Myrddin being their mentor

Mystical Guidance
A creative mind, a powerful leader/warrior, and a wise magical mentor... it's a powerful combination.

The alternate gang scene of Brockton Bay with Marquis still on the scene

Sword and Sorcery
It feels realistic, that with more competition that outwardly hate them, the E88 would have been destroyed sooner.
